All USGA rules will apply to League play with the following clarifications applying to our league. We handicap by strokes!

Strokes

To determine "Strokes": Total both team members handicap. Determine which team has the highest handicap, and subtract the lowest from the highest. This is now the number of strokes the low handicap team must give to the high handicap team. Example: Team #1Player A has an 8 handicap, Player B has a 6 handicap. Team #1handicap is 14Team #2Player A has an 11 handicap, Player B has a 13 handicap. Team #2handicap is 24. Therefore; 24 - 14 = 10 and Team #1 has to give Team #2, 10 strokes. To determine which holes strokes are given: A stroke is given starting with the hardest hole and continuing on until the strokes to be given are used up. Hole handicaps are shown on the score card with the hardest hole handicap being 1, second hardest is 2, etc. Example: Team #1 has to give Team #2, 10 strokes. From the score card, select the hardest holes, these are the holes,
HOLE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

TOTAL

HANDICAP 15 11 7 1 5 17 13 3 9
STROKES 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 1

10

which Team #1 has to give Team #2 strokes on. In the example to the left, Team #2 will get one stroke on all the holes except Number 4, for which they will get two strokes, this equals 10 strokes total. If Team #2 only received 3 strokes from Team #1, strokes would be given on holes # 4, 8. & 5.

Points

The total number of points a team can earn is 22, and is computed as follows. Two (2) points are taken for each hole won by a team. If a hole is tied, each team receives one (1) point. The team with the lowest net score receives 4 points. If the match is tied, then each team receives 2 points. Net score = Players score - players handicap. Add both team players handicap to get the Team handicap. Team Net score = Teams score - team handicap.

Substitutes

When a substitute is used to play in place of an absent team player, the sub's score will be used in place of the absent player. To determine the sub's handicap, subtract par from his score, then multiply that number by 70% (.7). Rounding example; 1.1 to 1.4 round down to 1, 1.5 to 1.9 round up to 2. Example: Sub's score for 9-holes is 49, 49 -36 = 13, Multiply 13 x.7 = 9.1 9 is the Sub's handicap for the round and is used to calculate strokes as will as net score.

Absent Player

If one of the team players is absent with no substitute, the following scoring system will be used for league play. Take the absent players handicap multiplied by 1.5 and add it to Par (36). Example: A player with an average of 49 and a 10 handicap will be scored as follows: 10 (handicap) x 1.5 (penalty) = 15, 15 + 36 = 51, 51 is the absent players score for 9 holes.
HOLE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

TOTAL

PAR 4 4 3 5 4 4 3 4 5
HANDICAP 15 11 7 1 5 17 13 3 9
ABSENT PLAYER 5 6 5 7 6 5 4 6 7

51

Note: neither his average nor his handicap will change. The player will take bogies on 3 holes & double bogies on 6 holes, which equals 15 over Par. On the scorecard take the 6 hardest holes and give the absent player double bogies, and on the remaining three holes give him bogies.

Absentee Team
If both team players are absent and both have substitutes, use the "Substitutes Handicap" scoring method. Use their net scores to determine "strokes" and points. Note the "Substitute team" can not take totals. The playing, "League team" will receive the 4 points for totals.
If both team players are absent and there is only one substitute, use the "Substitutes Handicap" scoring method and the "Absent Player" scoring method. The playing, "League team" will receive the 4 points for totals.

If both team players are absent and do not have substitutes, use the "Absent Player" scoring method to determine points during play. The team with players present, will count the points take for hole play, and will take 4 points for totals. The absent team will receive no points, regardless of points taken for hole play.Example: Team #1 is playing Team #2, Team #2 has both players absent and no sub's. Team #1 has to give team #2, 6 strokes based on team handicaps. During hole play, team #2, the absent team, wins 5 holes, scoring 10 points, and team #1 wins 4 holes, scoring 8 points. Team #1 receives 8 points for hole play and 4 points for totals. Team #2 forfeits the 10 points won for hole play and totals, receiving 0 points for the round.

Make-up Matches
If your team must be absent on our league night due to vacation, pre-arranged appointments, etc, and you need to arrange a “Make-up” game, you will have to notify the League Secretary and the team you are scheduled to play. Also you will have to notify Tyron Hills Staff, Dennis or Jon and set up a Tee time and date.
The “Make-Up” game must be played prior to the Tuesday night you will miss, and will be played on the Front or Back Nine which ever is scheduled for the misted night. All the information will be available on the “The Weekly Score Sheet”
“Example 1” Team 1 & 2 play a Make-up Match”
Team –1 has requested a “Make-up” Game with Team-2. Both teams have agreed to a time & date for the “Make-up” game. At the end of the match, the card must be dated and signed by a member from each team and turned into the league Secretary before the Tuesday night game.
The scores and points will be entered in the scorecard and posted in the ”Weekly Score Sheet” as though the game had been played during league play.

“Example 2” Team 2 is unable to play and will play on scheduled night.

Team -1 (The team who has requested the make-up game) will pick a date & time and have a representative (preferably a League player), be present with them while they play their game. You must play the designated nine holes for the league night you will miss.

At the end of the make-up game, the card must be dated and signed by a team member and by the representative they have with them.

The League Secretary will post both Team-1 & Team-2 scores and adjust the points. This will be entered in the scorecard and posted in the ”Weekly Score Sheet” as though the game had been played during league play.
If you have any questions about the above guidelines please contact the League Secretary.
